Dorian at the company RACELL
My trip in Uganda started on July 29th, and the target for the first week was to meet various players in the renewable energy business in Uganda. Together with Daniel Musiba, we managed to meet many representatives with different purposes:
- Developing internship agreements with organizations or companies for our future students to do their field work in. Priority has been given to players of the solar heating business, who were not merely importing ready-made devices, so that the knowledge transfer could be most profitable. Approximately six internship placements (only for SWH) have been identified, requirements being conditioned by the activity level of the company. Besides, we succeeded in placing our Solar Water Heating trainer – Rogers Kubaale – for two weeks internship in the only local company found that actually assembled solar heaters: Solar Construct.
- Enhancing knowledge transfer with local players aware about the local business environment, including other vocational training centers and NGOs. Different projects have been discovered with interesting perspectives we could learn from, may it be in PV or biogas. We are in the process of placing Rogers for 2 to 3 days in a training center led by RACell for him to get to know how such a well running operates.
- Exploring fundraising opportunities with local institutions (embassies, EU delegation, Total). It appears that our project might be perfectly eligible at a further level of maturity. A roadmap over the coming two to three years should be defined once the institute begins operations, in order to get funding.
- Marketing our projects to the players to raise awareness and build a business network, but also to discuss possible research partnerships, opportunities for company technicians to be trained in our centers, etc.
Have a good day!
